Pilder on! Mazinger Z might go live-action

Don't worry folks, Hollywood has nothing to do with this one, and original creator Go Nagai was actually the one who wanted to make it happen. To clarify things a little better, Go Nagai was at a convention in Barcelona, Spain where he made an announcement about commencing negotiations to make a live-action Mazinger Z.

In regards to his plans, he wants to make the adaptation a collaboration project between a Japanese and a European production company that have yet to be selected, since a majority of his works happen to be more popular in Europe and the Latino regions of America. He also hopes that he will have a more legit announcement during Mazinger Z's 40th anniversary, which will land on 2013.

If you have somehow manage to avoid any information related to this series, Mazinger Z covers the story of Kouji Kabuto's battle against the evil forces of Dr. Hell after inheriting a giant robot that was built by his grandfather. The series is also one of the first animes that features a main character that pilots a giant robot, which would act as a major influence to all future shows within the super robot genre of mecha animes.

You know, I would not mind seeing a live-action Mazinger as a movie or TV series, since the battles might be similar to those seen in tokusatsu and kaiju films/series. However, I would have preferred that we got an announcement related to a new season of Shin Mazinger Shogeki! Z-Hen, since the series ended in a cliff hanger that screams out for a proper sequel. But alas, that pilder might not land on the right head at the moment. But then again, the spring anime season has been a huge surprise for many, so I won't give up on my wish.

Three Anime Studios Takes On KID ICARUS

Posted By: Anime Vice

Fri May 4 2012 19:55:00 pm

Somehow, at some point, the prospect of “dating myself” with any pop cultural reference snuck up. So I hesitate just a little to say I’ve still got fond memories of the first time Kid Icarus (or is it Pit? I was always found that confusing) was animated to such a significant extent - - namely during his supporting role in CAPTAIN N: THE GAME MASTER.

Needless to say, toonin’ has leveled up rather majorly since that show commanded my attention over many a sugar-cereal-soaked Saturday morning. We were alerted by Nintendo about this project, subtitled "UPRISING," and shown a preview for a mini-feature that’s running exclusively on the 3DS. It seems like the micro-installment spin on licensed anime anthologies like the ANIMATRIX, HALO LEGENDS and the like, presenting three very different takes on Pit’s mythical adventures by three very different animation studios.

You've got...

Unfortunately, we're having some issues with our video compressor at the moment, so I can't share the video with you. In the meantime, here are some screencaps of the winged wonderment. You might have to do some additionally waiting, too, if you don't have a 3DS. It's exclusive on the device, for now - - but I imagine it won't be too long before it's made available elsewhere?
